Kickoff to Summer!

We kicked off summer the weekend before school got out with the Summer Kickoff Event at the Westwood Club with the Laugesen crew.  They had a bounce house, arts and crafts, food and of course, swimming!  Definitely got us excited for the upcoming month!!

The following day, on the 4th, we went to the Pentecost festival at our church where we played a lot of outdoor carnival type games and had dinner from a food truck. We ran into two families from Westwood so it was a fun afternoon hanging out with them.
And then, school got out and we got CRAZY!!
Nothing says summer like this...
We kicked off the first day of summer with an 8 a.m. jump in the pool with some of us missing clothes!  ha!  Nothing like diving right in to summer!
Charlotte is loving the water and we all love seeing her like it so much!! We are basically in the pool daily, sometimes twice a day.  We've had so much fun with it this summer already and love having friends and family over to swim in it, but also just enjoying it with our little family, too! Lots of fun!
The Ozecks came over for a sleepover on the first official night of summer which was a blast! They are moving into a new home on Coronado so we took the kids while Laura and Dave could help with the movers and begin the unpacking process.  We were happy to help and the kids had such a great time!
On Saturday we went on a hike.  There is a trailhead off of one of the streets in our neighborhood that I noticed awhile ago on a run and have always wanted to try it so figured today was the perfect day to do so.  It was a beautiful day out and fun to explore somewhere new.  We even came across a small waterfall and heard that there was a rattlesnake on the trail earlier that day but thankfully didn't run into that.
At the end, Charlotte had enough of the carrier so Rich took her so I offered to carry Julia on my back which she loved!!

After another swim in the pool and lunch we were on our way to meet Dave and Laura.  Gotta love the minivan being able to fit 6 car seats!!!  Cole was passed out within 5 minutes of leaving our house and Ella was close behind.  It was a fun, but late night and busy days!
After dropping the Ozecks off, we headed to the Corvette Diner at Liberty Station to meet up with our neighbors and friends, the Vuongs, Laugesens and Langlois'.  This was our first time to Corvette Diner and we had such a fun experience!!  The kids loved waiting in the arcade and had so much fun not only being together but taking in all of the sights and sounds of the restaurant.
Can't get enough of these milkshakes!
This smile says it all!!
First Monday of summer and our schedule was wide open!!  It was SO nice not to have to run out to be anywhere so we had a nice leisurely morning at home and then by 10:30 I was ready to get out of the house before we all went insane (ha!) so we just headed over to the park for a little bit which was perfect.
I was pushing Charlotte and Julia on the swings while Joseph and Ella were playing with each other...life is good.
Rich was out of town for this first week of summer which of course meant sleepovers in our bed!  This is what our bed looked like for most of the week but I didn't even mind since the summer mentality is fresh!
On June 15th we met up with our friends from RBCPC for a great day at the Westwood Club full of swimming, playground fun and popsicles!  It was such a fun day!
Friday cul de sac pizza nights moved to our pool on June 16th!  Lots of fun with the Vuongs and Laugesens, as always!

By the second week of summer, reality set in that these kids make a huge mess all.of.the.time and that my kitchen constantly looks like this!  Ha!  I'm hoping just to embrace it all summer long without going too crazy :)
We met up with the RBCPC crew again on the 19th and had fun at another pool for the day.
Joseph finding a new spot to hold his veggie straw in between his teeth.
Ella's crazy hair one day this week!
And, then her more studious side!
Ella went to her first playdate by herself with her friend, Sofia.  Her mom sent this picture of the two of them.  They are too sweet!
This week was also spent with lots of time just lounging in the pool!
Had friends over a few times, too!
Our neighborhood friends, the Domsalla family, are moving to Alabama for the military.  We had them over one afternoon to swim before they headed out.  It has been such a pleasure getting to know their family this past year and they have been so good to us.
Sweet Ella posing for me.
Love that they have the time to just play for hours at home these days (well some days at least!) Lots of doctor and family for the girls and legos and pokemon for Joseph and school and family for all three kids together, too.
I don't even remember how this started but all I know is that by the end everyone wanted in on it and ended up in the pool!
All fancy with her new clip on earrings on June 23rd!  Julia continues to be our most animated, lover of music and dancing child to date.  You'll often find her singing to herself or breaking into a dance at any given time.  She was doing my hair one time this month and just started singing/humming while doing it which totally just fits her personality.
And, then back to her tattooed, mismatch, crazy hair look later that day!

Ella just hanging out one morning.

Joseph started Outpost Camp on June 20th and attends every Tuesday/Thursday for 3 weeks from 9:00 to 4:00.  He is attending with his buddy, Chase, from RBCPC who went with him last year to the same camp.  They are having a blast-swimming, playing outside and doing all sorts of "camp" activities.

It's been fun having some downtime with just the girls while he is at camp, too.  Here we are having a tea party one afternoon...wish it was clearer so you could see Charlotte better in on the action, too!
Julia started speech this month through the San Diego Regional Center with their 0-3 early intervention program.  The therapist comes to the house once a week which is super convenient and all of the kids look forward to her visit.  When Julia turned 2 last September, we didn't have any concerns with her speech and actually thought that she was a little advanced for where she should be developmentally at that time.  Well, fast froward 6 months and as she started talking more we realized that we were having a much harder time understanding everything that she was trying to say (I should really say that everyone but myself was having a hard time understanding her...I normally can interpret pretty well.)  We decided not to wait until she turned 3 for the school district since we know that even if you get it going as soon as she turns 3 that the process can take awhile so I pursued the San Diego Regional Center to get her into the early intervention program.  They did an evaluation and she qualifies for speech services (thankfully she is right on target in all other areas) and will provide speech one time a week until she turns 3 which then services transfer to the school district.  We have been very happy with the therapist and although Julia was a bit hesitant for the first visit she now looks forward to it and really seems to enjoy herself.  We are focusing on the final sound which she often omits to begin with and have seen a lot of improvement when given reminders for her to do so.  Her therapist is certain that she'll catch on quickly and we are hopeful and optimistic as well.
Well, that pretty much sums up the day to day activities from the first month of summer!!  Throw in wrestling for Joseph every Tuesday/Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00, a fun weekend celebrating Rich's birthday and Father's Day (another post), Charlotte's baptism (another post as well), and a few other get togethers with friends that I didn't take pictures for and that's the month of June for you!  It has been a great first month of summer and we are looking forward to what the rest has in store for us!  Happy Summer!!
