Mother's Day

Every day I am so grateful to be the mom to these four amazing kiddos.  I know that I am loved, cherished and valued but it is nice to have one day out of the year where they make me really feel extra special!  They did just that this year and it was such a wonderful day!
Daddy and the kids made a delicious breakfast for me and spoiled me with handmade gifts and cards and a gift certificate for a massage.  We then headed to Torrey Pines to meet up with the Zicklers and the Ozeck which was a perfect start to the day!

Typical chaos when we are all together!
When we got home I snuck away for a few hours and got a massage and went to the mall.  The massage felt wonderful and the mall was random but there were a few things that I had been wanting to return so figured I'd get them done.  While I was there Daddy took the kids out to lunch and then back home for a nap for Charlotte and to have the kids relax (aka electronic time) for a bit.
When I got home we hung out at home for a bit watching them jump on the trampoline and then went to dinner.  I was hoping to go to Green Spot, but it was closed-had no idea!  We ended up at Cowboy Chicken which was fine and I was just happy that I didn't have to cook or worry about cleaning up!  WE came home and ate the ice cream pie from Joseph's First Communion which was perfect!

My Mother's Day celebration actually started a few days earlier in the week as I was invited to Julia's school for her Mother's Day performance.  It was as cute as could be as she sang songs for me and then we had a potluck together.  It was super special and I'm so thankful that the school puts on such a nice event!
Hanging with her after when Charlotte was napping
Julia performing her songs "Be Polite", "Skidamarinkidink" and "I Love My Mommy"
I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE being a mom to Joseph, Ella, Julia and Charlotte.  I couldn't imagine doing anything else with my life.  They truly make my life complete and give me a reason to be the best version of myself and hope that this world is a great place to live in.  I posted on social media today that ten years ago today, on Mother's Day, we spent in the ER discovering that I was having a miscarriage, the first of 3, and that although I wouldn't want to wish that upon anyone that my experience has truly made this role of being a mother so much sweeter for me.   There is honestly not one thing that I don't love about it.  I may worry that I am doing enough for them and what their future may look like but I try not to let that bother me and just know that I am doing my best and be so thankful for this incredible family that Rich and I have created together.  I am so thankful for these four kiddos and that I am their mom.

Joseph's First Holy Communion

Joseph's First Communion came on a busy weekend with Rich having class, Ella having a soccer tournament!, Mother's Day and Nani and Poppa being out of town but we were able to mange all of the other obligations and celebrate Joseph and all of his hard work these past two years in religious education class (church school as we call it) and take this step in his Catholic faith.  We are so proud of him.
His First Communion took place at San Rafael Catholic Church on May 11th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.  Joseph and I had to be there at 8:30 but it was so fun seeing the class come together and all of the kids looking so special and being so excited. The ceremony came together really nicely and it was a beautiful morning.  Joseph read one of the prayer petitions and he did great.  I am so thankful that I was his teacher for the past two years-I am sure he didn't love it every week having me there but I'd say overall he definitely did and it was really special for both of us.  I am so proud of the boy he is and who he is becoming.
At first he acted as if he didn't want to dress up for it, but once he saw the outfit come together I think he was pretty excited about how grown up and handsome he looked!  We couldn't have agreed more!
He was taking selfies on the way to the church!
One of his best buddies, TJ, also made his First Communion so that was really special for both of our families.
Rich left Ella's soccer game, leaving her there with friends, and brought Julia and Charlotte to the mass so we were thankful they were able to be there.  Immediately following the service they rushed back to the soccer fields so that Ella wasn't there for too long by herself.  Joseph and I came back home, changed and then we met them at the fields and were able to see Ella's last game.  They ended up losing which was a bummer, but it actually worked out better for us since we were then able to come home, and have Joseph open gifts before we went to Corvette Diner to celebrate.
He received a Bible and some money from Nonna and Pop Pop.
He received a baseball necklace with a cross on it from Nani and Poppa.
And other thoughtful gifts and cards from family.
We met up with everyone at Corvette Diner at 4:00 and got lucky and only had a 20 minute wait for a party of 20!!  We took over 2 large tables in the back room and it worked out perfectly.  Uncle JP and Aunt Carol were at their beach house in Mission Beach so we invited them to join us and we were so excited when they were able to make it!  We joked around all night that they were stand ins for Nani and Poppa since they couldn't be here as they were on my mom's 70th birthday cruise in Europe and we know was hard for them to miss this!! Linz and Paul were at Lindsays' work event for the night, but Finn was spending the night with us so we had their family represented at least. Lynn, TJ and Isabella Bestafka joined us, too, since Tom was out of town and they dint' have any family in town for TJ's First Communion, so that made it extra fun for Joseph, too!
The kids table!
 The massive cotton candy!!
 Dance Party!!
Nani and Poppa for the night :)
We sent this to my mom, too, since Mother's Day was the following day so we were celebrating all fo the special events with them!
 The whole delaMontaigne gang!
The whole crew with the Bestafka family
Everyone was asleep by the time we got home so we celebrated one more time on Sunday with ice cream pie, too!
God Bless You, Joseph.  We love you and are so proud of you.

Moving through May

May is here which means the winding down of a lot of things and gearing up for summer!  Some days summer feels like a long time away but we know that it will be here before we know it.  We had a lot of May gray this year with some days it lasting all day long so summer seemed really far away on those days but we soaked up the memories this month and had a great May!
Ella received a Character Counts award during May.  Her teacher submitted her for the award because Ella would finish her work and then want to help others instead of having free time.  She was called up during Friday Flag and was SO excited!  This is just what Ella needed since she's had a rough past few weeks at school.  She has not been wanting to go to school-never giving me a particular reason, sometimes that it is hard, sometimes that math is too long, sometimes that she just misses me.  She always seems ok in the morning as we are getting ready but once we get into the gates and wait for her teacher she becomes very clingy to me and then when it is time for her to walk to her classroom she starts crying.  Some mornings she is just sad, some she has tears and there have been some to the point where she won't let go of me and is almost hysterical.  It breaks my heart.  Her teachers have both been supportive; one being extremely supporting and letting Ella call me before lunchtime and check in with me.  We've also been trying to celebrate at home when she goes into school with just one last hug from me and then will leave by celebrating with ice cream at the end of the week and that seems to be helping a bit but it just kind of depends on the day.  Part of me thinks that she is just in a bad habit/routine of it now and knows that it brings attention to her but we'll keep working with her and hoping that she overcomes it.  Thankfully when I pick her up from school she is all smiles.
Celebrating at Baskin Robbins one weekend after a week of no tears from Ella.
We snuck in a visit to the dentist this month and are happy to report that everyone was cavity free!  Charlotte also got into the dentist chair this visit like she owned the place and loved every second of it.  What a difference from 6 months ago!
Helping Daddy with some yard work one Saturday.  We're still trying to figure out what we're doing with our backyard and don't want to do too much since the plan is to put a pool in later this year/early next year but it still needs some TLC every once in awhile.
Honestly, I don't even remember what this was or how it started but is kind of a typical night in our home.  Crazy kids!!
Another typical night in our home-still not sure what is happening but definitely normal!
We've still been doing the Tuesday playgroup at the club and we brought Finn twice this month since Nani and Poppa were out of town.  The girls love having him!
Love this shot of Julia!!!!  She's so strong!
Finn turned 3 on May 14th so Linz and I took the kids to the Safari Park to celebrate!  They had a great morning together and we loved celebrating him!
Still lots of baseball this month so here we are entertaining ourselves!!!
Joseph and Rich went to Petco Park to watch the Padres play for Little League Day.  They got to walk on the field before the game, which they said was great, and had a really fun day, despite it raining off and on.
Lots of baseball this month, still and, all these sweet cousins cheering Joseph on!!
'
Ella's soccer season wrapped up this month and she had another great season and learned a lot.  She moved up a division so was in with some older girls but hung really well.

Lots of random fun inside and outside from this month!
Julia is totally into filming herself and/or taking many, many selfies.  I find hundreds of these on my phone at night and they always make me giggle!  She has also mastered the filters and we just have so much fun with them!

I'm pretty sure they are all in there, but I can't be totally sure!  Ha!
So much love for Finn-y!
Hanging at the park!
I made a quick stop at Edelweiss to get some cookies and the girls, of course, wanted their picture with the baker!
Charlotte looking extra fancy with the lipstick, earrings and big bow on one day.  She's something special.
The weather was starting to finally feel like summer towards the end of the month so we had to picnic outside as much as we could!
I finally got around to taking the hearts down from Lent-I love this tradition and it makes my heart so happy to see then all up there!  I love even more that the kids enjoy reading them and remembering what they have done to make others happy.
Towards the end fo May the 2nd grade classes put on a "Rockin' through the Decades" play which was super cute!  Joseph was part of the 90's crew so I found him a Bayside Tigers shirt on amazon and he was super excited to wear his hat backwards!  He had a speaking part and they sang a bunch of songs and it was great!

Joseph looks like he is 13 in this picture!!  Stop growing up!  He did ask me to stop putting notes in his lunchbox this month, which I have been doing every.single.day since his first day of Kindergarten, so I pretended like it didn't bother me and just sent him his lunch all alone.  Boo hoo!!!
Over Memorial Day weekend we decided to drive to Temecula to go blueberry picking.  I had heard great things about this cute little farm so on Saturday after Joseph's baseball game we decided to give it a try.  And, we LOVED it!!!  The kids loved picking the blueberries and it was such a fun experience.  They also had a petting zoo and horse rides so Nani treated the kids to rides after the picking.  I spent almost $50 in blueberries and had SO many but it was totally worth it!
The blueberry pie that I made from all these leftover blueberries turned out pretty delicious, according to Rich and Joseph.  (I don't like blueberry pie so didn't eat any but the blueberries themselves were tasty!!!)
We ended up in Coronado on Sunday of Memorial Day, although for some reason I don't have any pictures, and then on Monday we went to Nani and Poppa's to celebrate Finn's birthday.  It was a great long weekend!

On the way home we stopped by Menchies.  Joseph earned ice cream from his baseball game and Ella earned it for her week at school so it was a perfect time to stop!
And, to finish off, just some nice shots from the backyard this month.  Love this view-it never gets old!
Bring on summer, we are ready for you!
