Beach camping!

We went on our 2nd annual beach camping trip with our Westwood crew and had another awesome year!  We camped at South Carlsbad in the group site again and it didn't disappoint!  This year we had the site from Sunday-Tuesday so it seemed a little less crowded which was nice and the weather was perfect and the company was awesome!  SO much fun!!
We arrived on Sunday around 2:30 and were on the beach within an hour!
Since we were so close to the Zicklers they came to join us for the afternoon which was great!
Hanging at the campsite the first evening in the infamous tree!
The whole crew of kiddos!

Charlotte seemed to love every minute of it!  She repeated "beach" over and over...even at 4:30 a.m. when she woke up the first morning!  She was so happy to be there that she didn't want to go back so her and I drove around Carlsbad for awhile, hit up a Starbucks, went for a 2 mile walk...all before 7:00 a.m.  Thankfully she took a nap that afternoon and slept in the following day until 6:30 so it was all ok!
Smores, of course!
On Monday morning everyone was up and playing games by 8:00 a.m. and we were at the beach by 9:00 a.m. and spent a full day there.  We came up for lunch but then headed straight back down and stayed until dinner.  It was a perfect beach day!!!
The Pilchik family joined us this year so it was nice to have another girl amongst all of the boys!!
But, thankfully, all of the boys include our girls so nicely and everyone just plays so well together!
The whole crew of adults!
Just the ladies!
Our setup for the day
My Botero crew (Jen is technically an honorary Botero crew)

I always say how much I love Ella hanging with the boys-she truly loves playing with all of them and most times if there are a group of girls around she prefers to be playing with these kids.  Whether it be nerf guns in the cul de sac or boogie boarding in the ocean, the boys make her feel welcome and she feels comfortable to hang with them.
Rich and Chris got in some good boogie boarding time.
I just love, love, love this picture of Julia!!  Her curls look so awesome in  the beach air and she just soaked up every part of the day-whether jumping over the waves with Rich and I, or playing in the sand with all the kids, or setting up camp-she, too, loved it all!!  One funny thing to remember was that on both nights Charlotte and Julia started off on the double air mattress with Rich and I which was a little snug so I tried putting Charlotte into the pack and play which she had no interest in being in, so eventually I moved Julia into and she slept so soundly both nights!  She slept until almost 9:00 a.m. the second morning!!!
Hanging at the tree after the beach.
Camping shirts!!!
We are so thankful for this group of boys!!!

On Tuesday all of the other families packed up and headed home early but our crew decided to do another round of the beach.  Rich had the day off and we didn't have any other plans so didn't need to be home early so took advantage of it and had a great morning at the beach.  We hung until noon and  then went into Carlsbad to grab some Mexican food for lunch.  Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures since Rich's phone was in the van and my phone was still sitting in rice (it got wet at the WillPower 5K the day we left for camping so sat in rice the entire time we were there, which didn't work, but thankfully $120 later it was fixed vs buying a brand new phone!)  but it was such a nice family day! So thankful for this time with our family and friends and we are looking forward to the trip next year already!!

WillPower Visit!

We had the joy of having the Byers family visit San Diego at the beginning of August.  There was a MPS conference downtown that they tied into their visit but we know their real reason was to come see us :). We were fortunate enough to have them at our home for two nights before they headed downtown for the conference and thankfully we caught up with them the day before they left to run a 5K with them as well.  It was such a wonderful visit and brought so much happiness to all of us!
We picked up right where we left off, which was April 2017 in Boston, which just seems crazy to think that it had been that long!!  Although I did get a quick visit with Val in February 2018 when she came to San Diego but other than that it had been way too long!
Sweet boys!!  Hard to believe that they have been buddies for 7 years now!!
Catching up with Val!  She's the best!!
Girl sleepover!
On Thursday they didn't want to travel too far since they had to be downtown by lunchtime so we took them over to the Westwood Club to play for a bit and then swam.  Sam stayed with us for the afternoon which was such a treat to spend some extra time with her.
I just love seeing how comfortable we all are around each other-you seriously would think that we see them daily with how comfortable everyone was with one another.  I loved it!!
Char rocking her new WillPower sunglasses from Auntie Val!
A Little Rock painting after swimming!
And lots of fun time together!!
They were up and out of the house pretty early on Friday morning but thankfully we were able to snap a quick group shot before they headed downtown.  We are so thankful for their family and just have such a special place in our hearts for them.
The 5K was early on Sunday morning so we made our way downtown and ready to run!  Rich had already run 15 miles super early that morning with his buddy so this was a cool down for him!!  Rich and I both placed 2nd overall for male and female so that was pretty neat-it was a small race but we were proud to represent WillPower!   My parents and Bubba and Hollie were there to cheer us on and to watch the kids which was super great of them and we loved seeing them there!
Charlotte was ready to race, too!!
And, oh, the puppies!!!  At the race they had a large pen set up with therapy golden retriever and golden doodle puppies that you could go in and pet!!  The kids (and Hollie!!) didn't leave the pen for the entire time we were there!  They were all in love! I'm sure if you asked them they would tell you that this was the best race ever that they had been to for this reason!!
If they were for sale, we might have been able to convince Daddy to let us come home with one!  Good thing they were therapy dogs in training!  Ha!
It was such a treat to have them visit us!  We are already looking forward to our next visit.
We love the Byers!!
