Ella is 5!!!

Ella Bean.  Baby Girl.  Beanie. How are you 5??  She's growing up so fast and we're just trying to soak in this special stage.
For her birthday she wanted a "Red Sparkles Soccer" party (Red sparkles was her soccer team's name from the fall). I couldn't quite get out of her if she wanted a full soccer party so I went with the theme of adding some red sparkle to a loosely based soccer theme :). She seemed really pleased with it all so I'd say we were on the right track!
She woke up and was just SO excited.  She put on a dress that she'd been wanting to wear for her birthday and came down and was ready to celebrate!!  She got to open a gift after breakfast (with the request of "no eggs for my birthday!" and opened a glitter box of art supplies which she loved so the day was off to a great start!
She had school on her birthday which she loved since she got to be the Star for the day so we brought in mini muffins and strawberries and she brought three things to share about herself.  She chose not to stay for lunch bunch and just had the best day when I came to pick her up.
Some fun tidbits about Ella at 5:
-Although she mastered riding her bike without training wheels over the summer she has really taken off this past month-she flies now and it is her preferred method of transportation.
-She really has no interest in not wanting to wear pull-ups at bedtime.  I"ll bring it up every once in awhile and it almost seems to stress her out and she just keeps putting it off.  We talked maybe about after Christmas but she didn't seem really excited about it so I'd be surprised if she ends up wanting to go through with it.
-She is continuing to make progress with her speech.  She is still behind her peers and non family members and close friends still struggle to understand he in daily conversation but she has made so much progress in a year.  She continues to go twice a week through the school district and after the new year she'll resume going privately as well (her therapist has been on maternity leave.).
-The week before her birthday a firefighter from San Diego died while on the job so there was a procession for him on the freeway which we saw.  After explaining to her she said to us with tears in her eyes, 'This makes me sad."  We love her sweet heart.
-Ella continues to be such a great helper in our home-she is just so good with everyone.  She is always willing to help with Charlotte and has really taken on the role of a little mother with her and then she and Julia are basically BFFs always playing "family" or "doctor" or more recently "school" together and she and Joseph have such a special bond of being the oldest two where they can really get lost in their own little world together.
-She loves arts and crafts, coloring, pretending to write...of that good stuff!!
-She has the BEST belly laugh that is just so contagious and we just think the world of her!
She is still preferring to smile with closed lips  so this is all I could get out of her from after school...

Rich had a half day on her birthday so it was fun that he was home early and then Poppa and Nana stopped by to wish her a happy birthday so it was even more special.  When Nani and Poppa were there she asked to open the rest of her presents so it was fun to have them there for that.  She was thrilled (and shocked!) to get her tablet, too!!

Nani and Poppa didn't stay for dinner but we had her "favorite burritos" as she calls them and macaroni and cheese for dinner and then she requested cupcakes with the same toppings that she had from her birthday last year (which were Frozen glittery candies, which totally didn't match the red sparkle theme but I went with it-I did put her soccer picture on one of the cupcakes so tried to pull the Red Sparkle soccer theme into it anyways :). She loved it all so I'd say that's a success!  She just had such a great day and we are so thankful for this sweet 5 year old!!
We love you Ella Bean and can't wait to see what the year has in store for you.
