Poppa, the elf!

Poppa had to be back in Dallas in the middle of December for meetings to get ready for the bowl game in January so he made the trip to see us again on December 18th.  He got in after dinner on Thursday night and left after breakfast on Saturday morning so it was a quick trip but we had such a great time and Joseph and Ella were so excited that he was coming and loved every minute with him!  He arrived in time to see the kids before they headed to bed and he didn't wind them up too much so after they went to bed we put Poppa to work!  Nani and Poppa got the kids a kitchen for Christmas and since we made a last minute decision to spend Christmas in Atlanta we decided that it would be perfect to celebrate Christmas in Texas with Poppa.  It worked out great since he would be able to see them open the presents from he and Nani, but more importantly because Rich had his help setting up the kitchen!!  When they opened the box at 8:00 p.m., I'm pretty sure if Poppa wasn't here that the amount of obscenities that could have come out Rich's mouth would have gone through the roof!   The two of them got to work and finished it in about three hours so it wasn't too bad (and could have been a lot worse!)
Almost there!
On Friday morning after waiting for Ella to wake up (she is sleeping until about 7:30 these days) we had to check out to see what Poppa, Santa's elf, had put under the tree!  They were really excited and started playing with the kitchen immediately!  Thank you Nani and Poppa!
Julia was all ready to celebrate her first Christmas!
After eating breakfast and playing all morning Poppa helped us make a gingerbread house (which was way more complicated than I had ever imagined!)  This was the first time that I have ever bought a kit and who would have thought that you have to let the icing set for multiple hours?? Thankfully we started it before naps so it set while everyone rested and then we put the finishing touches on once everyone woke up.
I just love Ella's choice of clothing on this rainy, cold day in December!  She has such a great way of brightening your day!!
 Final product-perfect!
The rain stopped so we decided to get outside for a bit to burn off some of the energy from the candy that everyone ate from the gingerbread house so we went for a walk/bike ride.
 Ella had the best spot!
 She was in heaven!
And then we raced around the cul-de-sac for a bit and played "policeman."
We relaxed on Friday night and then everyone was up early on Saturday morning to play a little bit more before Poppa had to leave.  He headed out by 9:00 and Joseph and Ella were both so sad to see him go but we had such a fun visit and are so grateful that he has been able to turn his business trips into time with us!  We'll take any amount of time with him that we can get.  Thanks Poppa for coming-we love you and will see you soon!
