Happy 4th Birthday, Joseph!!
We had a great day celebrating our favorite four year old! We decided this year to just have a family day/party and are so happy with our decision. We told Joseph that he could choose anything that he wanted to do on his birthday and he decided that he wanted to go to the mall, ride the carousel and pick out a toy at the Disney store. Sure, buddy! We can definitely do that! Leading up to his party he would say things like, "Mom, I'm ok that we're having a family party instead of a friend party because I love having a family party and going to the Disney store together." So sweet! So, after church and lunch we headed to the mall and did just that. He spent about 30 minutes in the Disney store deciding what he wanted to buy and he ended up with a large Bucky ship from Jake and the Neverland Pirates which he was very excited about. We then headed to the carousel for a birthday ride!
Ella and I enjoying the carousel ride, too, while waving at Daddy and Julia on the side.
We then headed home for his requested dinner of macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets and broccoli. He asked for a Paw Patrol cake and was ecstatic to find Ryder on top of his cake!
After singing and eating cake we opened presents and Joseph was definitely excited about them all!
One of the favorites was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume from Nonna and Pop Pop! He has never seen the show but has been to a few Ninja Turtle birthday parties and since those pretends often that he is a Ninja Turtle so the costume was a hit!
It went on immediately!
And, then Ella wanted a turn, too!
That hair is always in her face!!
Ninja Turtle Ella!!

A few things to remember from Joseph turning 4:
This past year has been so great watching Joseph grow and really turning into a preschooler. It is amazing to think of the things he has learned the past year and how much he has grown. He knows all of his letters and loves spelling his name and Ella's name. He often asks how to spell things. He can write his name close to being legible but doesn't always like practicing his letters or writing. When I asked him if he wanted write his thank you notes his response to me was, "No thank you!"He is so great with his sisters and watching he and Ella play together is just one of the best things ever. He really has a very sweet personality, is a great helper at home, a good listener and definitely is a rule follower. He loves wrestling with Daddy and hanging out with "just the boys" but is definitely a Momma's boy. He continues to love being read to during the day but at bedtime still asks for a Jake story from Daddy instead of books. He likes playing with his cars, legos, duplos and even the big blocks still but really isn't obsessed with any particular toy. He continues to have quite an imagination and can spend hours playing without physical toys but just pretending that he is on an adventure or on an airplane or in the jungle or part of Jake and the Neverland pirates, etc. He is still riding his bike with training wheels but goes super fast on it which I like because I'm able to run next to him while he rides. He is very active, loves being outside and playing baseball, soccer, football or any other sport-he's pretty coordinated. Joseph sleeps from 7:30ish until 6:15ish and actually for his birthday one of his gifts was a clock with a red and green light on it. For the past few months he often comes down to our bedroom around 5:45ish and rarely goes back to sleep which is just a bit too early for all of us so the clock is set for 6:15 and at that time the light turns green and he can come downstairs. The first night we used it he came down at 5:50 and said that the light wasn't turning green so Daddy took him back up and waited for it to turn green and since then it has worked really well. I am pretty sure that he still wakes up before 6:00 but at least he doesn't wake anyone else up until the light turns green!
He had his 4 year check up with Dr. Romero and other than the shots all went well. He is being referred to an ENT because she said that his tonsils are extremely large and he often clears his throat repeatedly (he sounds like he is hocking up a lung every morning) so we will go there in the new year and see what it brings. He weighed 36.5 pounds and was 3 1/2 feet tall at the appointment.
Here are the questions and his responses for his 4th birthday that I have been asking him every year:
Favorite sayings-
He doesn't really have anything that he says repeatedly these days but here are a few comments that have made us smile and laugh recently:
Favorite food-“Ummm, O’s”
Favorite friends-“Ummm, Michael and John.”
Favorite color-“Umm, blue, mommy, blue.”
Favorite animal-“Ummm, Jaguar, mommy.”
Favorite song-“Ummm, Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. That’s my favorite song, Ella.”
Favorite thing to do outside-“Ummm, jump and climb and run fast.”
Favorite drink-"Milk and water. Actually water and orange juice.”
Favorite book-"Yo ho let’s go, my jake book.”
With the upcoming year we will have to work on him omitting the "ummms" at the beginning of each sentence!
Happy birthday sweet boy! We love you and can't wait to see what the next year brings!
