Memorial Day Weekend Day 1

I have way too many pictures from Memorial Day weekend so figured I would break it up into 3 parts-Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  So here goes for day 1.

We decided to go to Lake Conroe, about 30 miles north of us, for the holiday weekend with 3 other families (all friends who I have met through baby boot camp.)  It was the perfect weekend-the kids were great (Joseph slept like a champ which always seems to help any vacation), the weather was beautiful and the adults were even able to relax a little and it was just so nice to get away for a bit.
We arrived on Saturday around noon and checked out the campground.  Each family rented a cabin, all next to one another, which worked out perfectly.  The cabins had a full kitchen, a living room area, a bedroom and a bathroom and more importantly were air conditioned.  Texas nights don't cool down quite enough over the summer to sleep outside.

Joseph took a nap once we got there (I guess I did, too!) to gear up for the weekend.

After the nap we headed up to the pool on the campground.  There was a great kiddy pool but Joseph enjoyed the adult pool more where he could practice his moves from swim lessons that we began a few weeks ago.  He is definitely a little fish.
We then headed back and started dinner.  We split dinners up so two families were in charge of one night which was really nice not to have to worry about it both nights.  We had the first night with the Conleys so Rich and Mike grilled sausages and corn on the cob while Carrie and I worked on the salads and appetizers.  The other families watched the kids so it really worked out well.
After dinner we roamed around on the pier.  The kids loved watching people catch fish.  All 5 of the kids would touch the fish and I think Joseph even tried to kiss it!  Gross!  It was a bit challenging making sure that he didn't walk right into the water and spent a lot of time doing this:
But, once he accepted that he had to hold hands it was all good!

Kids were asleep by 8 and the adults were up until after 11 talking and laughing which was such a nice treat!

Great Day 1!
