The Outerbanks-Part I

We spent the week of the 4th of July in the Outerbanks, North Carolina with the delaMontaigne family as well as my mom's extended family, the Steves. It was such a great week and so wonderful to be together with everyone.  The house that we stayed in was awesome!  It had 6 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, a pool, hot tub, outdoor shower, basketball court, game room...basically everything you needed for 20 plus people to spend a week in!
The first few days the weather varied from sunny to cloudy to thunderstorms so had to plan our beach, pool and park trips just right.  Thankfully we only got caught once in a rainstorm when we were at the park but Brian and Hollie came to save us!
We made it to the beach every day though and soaked up our time there.

We're a little worried about Joseph being a follower when he grows older because right now whenever he sees bigger boys doing something he wants to do it.  The football game between Daddy and Joseph was prompted by the big boys playing football in the water behind them.  Joseph's shirt is off becaseu teh big boys next to him didn't have shirts on.  And, every time when we walked back to the beach he would see older kids walking barefoot and always asked to take his crocs off.  Daddy is already talking about working on his leadership skills and not succumbing to peer pressure :)
Poppa came back from a walk down the beach with a crab!
He is such a great Poppa!
Trying to build up the confidence to touch the crab

 Joseph named him Rocket.
Our other little happy beachgoer
 So pretty!
The house had a pool, hot tub and a kiddie pool so we spent a lot of time there as well.

Ella and I hanging by the pool
Joseph was diving for the sticks in the pool-see him underwater?!

And, he got it!! So awesome!
Brian entertained us all by performing crazy jumps into the pool all while catching the ball and trying to make a basket.  He got pretty creative and we all enjoyed cheering him on!
 Ella watching Uncle Bubba!
And, then of course Joseph had to try to shoot a basket and jump like Uncle Bubba
Everyone having a great time!

On Saturday morning we went for one last swim before we headed out
There was a park about a mile from the house which we walked to a few days.  Joseph walked there and back every time we went-he had a lot of energy to burn all week so this was a good way to get some of it out!!
And when we weren't at the beach, the pool or the park we were just hanging out at the house with everyone.

Joseph saw cousin Ryan walk in one day with his skateboard and became obsessed.  Ryan was so good with the kids and gave them each rides.
We found a helmet in the garage so "Safety First" as Joseph says so had to wear it!  He even made Ryan wear it.

We had a king sized bed in our room so Joseph slept in bed with us.  Naps and bedtime were the most challenging parts of the trip as we couldn't just close the door and leave him in the room because he probably never would go to sleep so one of us laid down with him to get him to sleep which sometimes took a very long time!!  This boy has energy!!  He played so HARD during the day that you would have thought that he just would crash as soon as his head hit the pillow but this was not always the case.  But, once he was out, he was definitely out!
Here he is snuggling with me trying to go to sleep...
 and pretending to sleep

The best part about the trip was just being with all of our family.  It was so great to have the entire week with everyone and just to all be together in one spot.  We played games every night, had great dinners, drank a lot of wine, had lots of laughs and just enjoyed one another's company.
Brian and his fabulous girlfriend, Hollie
Taking a little break from running laps around the couches for some iphone time.  This is the only time that they would sit still!
Even Zoey (Lindsay's dog) came along for the vacation!  I am sure she is loving being back home.  Joseph LOVES Zoey...a little too much most of the time though!
Lindsay and Paul are getting married on January 4th, 2014 and they asked Joseph to be one of their ringbearers.  He was so excited, probably because they gave him a ring pop, but he'll make a great ring berear.
And they asked Sydney to be a flower girl.  I don't remember what Laura was laughing about here but I love this picture of her!
The cousins got along so great!

Joseph is pretty much "all boy" and Sydney is pretty much "all girl" so it was pretty fun to watch them together.  Sydney put up with Joseph's crazy, high energy antics and it was pretty cute watching Sydney who seemed to be in awe of her older cousin. They were both so great and really had a fun time together.
And these two were just so happy and easy going.

A little bit more down time.  Joseph has become quite the sly one and was able to practice this with Sydney and the ipad.  If she had it he would go up to her with the iphone and give it to her and once she was hooked on it he would quietly take the ipad away from her.  She wouldn't even notice and it was pretty funny to watch.
Thanks to everyone for such a great week!  We loved being together and can't wait to see everyone again!
