We headed to Port Aransas (about 4 hours south of The Woodlands) again this year for our 3rd annual Memorial weekend getaway with the Byers and Enia families.
This year our family decided to head down one night early since Rich had a project close by that he could check on so we left on Thursday, May 22nd after we picked Joseph up from his last day of school. The ride down went really well-the kids were great and we stopped once for a bathroom break and once for dinner and arrived to the hotel around 7:00. Ella took awhile to fall asleep but once both were asleep it was a smooth night in the hotel.
Pretty pictures on the drive down.
Can you see the windmills in the background? They were pretty impressive!
On Friday morning while Rich went to check on his project the kids and I checked out the hotel pool. Joseph went back and forth between the hot tub and the regular pool and loved it!
The swim diapers were in the truck at first so I had Ella in the pool trying not to let her get too wet but that was nearly impossible since she basically wanted to be swimming the entire time. Thankfully Rich pulled up right as I was pulling her out with fear that her diaper was going to explode in the pool and he dropped off a swim diaper. She wasn't crazy about getting out and switching diapers but I am sure that she was much more comfortable in the swim diaper and I was much less worried that I was going to have a major mess to clean up...those regular diapers get so gross when wet!!
Around noon we packed up the hotel room and loaded back into Daddy's truck and made our way across the water to Port Aransas. Ella crashed out on the drive but Joseph enjoyed being on the ferry and looking for Will and Elsie on the drive!
This was the first year that we decided to rent a house together with all of our families and we loved it! It worked out so well and the kids had a blast waking up and walking out of the bedrooms ready to play!
We all ended up showing up at the house right around 1:00 on Friday afternoon and the older kids had to check out the bunk beds immediately!
I caught Joseph and Elsie having some deep conversation on the top bunk-so sweet!
On Friday afternoon the dads took the older kids to the beach and the moms and the younger three kids headed to the grocery store to stock up for the weekend. After dinner we all relaxed-this picture just makes me smile at how comfortable everyone looks and pretty much sums up the great weekend!
Saturday morning we were up early and at the beach by 9:45. We spent all morning there and then headed home for lunch and naps/rest time and then back to the beach before dinner. It was the perfect schedule and we love being within walking distance to the beach.
The beach is great; however, same as last year it was very seaweedy! See the pile of seaweed by the tent in the picture and the bulldozers coming down the beach?! They came every morning and made huge piles of the seaweed to clear it out. Thankfully it didn't bother the kids and although it definitely grossed me out a bit, we made the best of it!
This girl loves the beach! She would run into the water constantly and basically just flop around in it and then was so happy playing with the toys on the shore.
Hanging out back at the house on Saturday afternoon. Baby Ben and Baby Sam are good friends already!
The house had a big deck right outside of the living area so we spent a lot of time there and then there was a third floor deck which the kids loved playing on, too.
Back at the beach playing bright and early on Sunday morning.
The boogey board was a huge hit!
Ella wanted to ride like the big kids and LOVED it (which really didn't surprise us!)
Even, Val went for a ride!
All three big kids on and ready to ride!
Fun with Daddy!
I wish these were a little clearer of Ella's face but she was just loving it!
On Sunday after naps/rest time we all headed to a cute coffee/gelato/panini house for an afternoon snack. The gelato was delicious!
And, Ella decided to get naked!
And, then, back at the beach on Sunday afternoon.
Rich wanted to get an open water swim in one of the days but it was pretty choppy each day so he opted not to-just enjoyed playing in the waves with the kids instead.
The beach is definitely our happy place!!
Lots of fun pictures from hanging out back at the house! The deck was so nice-great for the kids during the day and for the adults to hang out during naptime and after the kids went to bed!
The view from our deck early one morning before the sun broke through the clouds.
That is the path that we took to get to the beach-a nice little workout to get us there!
And, more pictures at the house
The two "E's"-sweet friends!
My monkeys!
Up on the third floor deck the kids made a fort one day and had a great time playing in it. Ella always wanted to go with them but we weren't quite ready to let her be up there by herself with all of the stairs.
Buddies!
Waiting for breakfast one morning!
Here is the front of the house. It was such a great weekend and we are so thankful for our great vacationing friends! The adults all get along so well, as do the kids, which just makes for such an easy and fun getaway! After one last morning beach trip on Monday morning we all headed back around noon. Unfortunately, the drive home took a lot longer due to a lot of rain but our kids both took great naps and were really good (overall) so it didn't seem quite as long as it was. It was a fun weekend and we are already looking forward to next year!
