I'm pretty sure that I'm still in shock that Charlotte turned ONE on September 3rd! I mean, really?!? Where has the past year gone?? Wasn't I just pregnant with her? How is our littlest baby now 1?? Are we officially out of the real baby phase in our house? (That one almost makes me cry just by itself). Its all so bittersweet. It has been such a joy watching Charlotte grow this past year and although some of it seems like a blur it really was such a magical year. Thinking back on when I freaked out when the swing broke because that is all she slept in for the first 4(!?!) months of her life and ended up buying two more swings to make sure we had one that would always work, to wondering how any of us made it out the door by 7:30 during the week those first few months (let alone clothed and fed!!), to recalling the shocked feelings when seeing that she was 9 pounds, 14 ounces!! What a year!! She has turned into a little spitfire with quite the personality already. Definitely a girl who knows what she wants and who wants to be heard. She isn't going to let being the baby of this family stop her from anything! She is ready to keep up with the big kids and we can't wait to see what this upcoming year has in store for her. Lots to be learned, experienced and loved on in this next year.
This past month has had a lot of excitement for Miss Charlotte Grace, beginning with an awesome poop story!! On August 5th we were all in our bedroom hanging out when Charlotte decided to crawl out and go down the hallway. About two minutes later, I said to Rich, "I'm going to check on her" and found her in the bathroom. She was standing over the toilet with her hand in it, pulling out a piece of poop!!!!! Julia's poop to be exact! SO gross!!!! I just started yelling, "Ewwww, oh my gosh , Rich, come here, so gross!!" Of course everyone came in and was just as grossed out as I was! Right into the bath she went and I'm just thankful I caught her before it ended up in her mouth. This was definitely a first and hopefully she learned her lesson and it is the last! She is a mischievous little one though and likes to get into things. She is totally into pulling the toilet paper off of the roll and loves getting on the dishwasher and has discovered the "kid drawer" and enjoys throwing the plates, cups, and bowls all about!
The following are just random pictures from her last month before she turned 1!!!
I just love how she curls up like this to sleep. She is a really good snuggler when you hold her, too. She sticks both of her hands down in front of her body and just kind of tucks herself right into your chest. Love that.
Loves playing in the tent in the girls' room.
She had her first bounce house experience this month and loved it!!!
We had our first burn experience EVER with Charlotte this past month as well. I was in the kitchen with her and Julia getting dinner ready and the oven was on. Charlotte was playing in the "kid drawer" and I was standing right next to her. The oven was closed but she reached over to it and stuck her hand in between the drawer under the oven and the actual oven and started crying. She pulled her hand out quickly but it got her two middle fingers causing a good size blister on the one and smaller blisters on the tips of both of them as well. Poor sweet girl. She actually didn't even cry that much and they really didn't seem to bother her during the recovery process as well. We kept them covered with Neosporin and then bandaged them and put a sock over them so she wouldn't pick at the bandage. She did well with it although I'm sure was happy to be down with them once healed. Thankfully they all healed fine-there is still a pinkish spot where the biggest blister was but hoping that fades with time.
We swung by the mall one day to pick out an outfit for her 1 year pictures so stopped at the indoor playground for a bit and she had a blast! My days of sitting on the side and watching are long gone for the next few months and will be replaced with me chasing after her making sure she doesn't fall off some crazy play structure opening.
Other fun things from this month include her shaking her head "no" for the first time on August 14th, pointing to her nose when asked to on August 15th and taking her first step on August 18th!!!! Yay!! By her first birthday she was taking 5 or 6 steps in a row but not consistently and her preferred method of transportation is still crawling but soon enough!! She has become really engaging this month and loves to play with us. She's always waving hi or bye, pointing at everything and babbling a lot. She will follow everyone around when hanging out in the house, she will pretend to play hide and seek by covering her eyes, Julia often complains that "Baby Lar Lar is getting into my stuff" so she's obviously interacting with her enough to bother her-ha ha! She's great at destroying legos, board games, papers, books...anything that is left in her reach! She's a busy one!
When upstairs, she also loves getting on to the top bunk of the beds. She will climb right up the stairs and then get so excited to be up there that she just flails her body around and crawls super fast from one side of the bed to the other. I don't let her stay up there for long because obviously I need to be right there watching her to make sure she doesn't fall off the side, so whenever I take her down she always puts up a fight. We try to block the stairs but she has gotten pretty good at breaking through our barricades. She's a determined little one.
She continues to loves all meals!!! Although she seems to love all foods, she has no problem in throwing something on the floor if she doesn't feel like eating it at a certain time. I am still on my hands and knees after every meal picking up after her mess and she is normally still covered in food, which is why she still eats shirtless most days.
A favorite activity this past month has been walking with Charlotte!
She LOVES to point!
We had her 1 year appointment on September 12, 2017 and she looked great. She weighs 22 pounds, 14 ounces (75-90th percentile) and is 29 3/4 inches long (50-75th percentile). Her head is 46.5 cm which is also in the 75-90th percentile). Dr. Goldberg said that she looks great and we are so thankful that she is healthy and happy.
Sweet baby girl...
with a little bit of sass!!
We started off her actual birthday with a little swim in the pool,
and then opened up her presents.
That afternoon we went to Coronado for the concert in the park with the Ozecks, Nani, Linz, Finn and Katie and her kids met us there, too. It was a super fun concert where everyone got up and was dancing and we had fun celebrating Charlotte with carrot cupcakes, too!
She wasn't sure at first but once she got the hang of them she dove right in!
Cousin Finn helping her out!
The following pictures are from her photo shoot at JC Penney for her birthday. We've always just gone this route for their first birthdays-I'm glad that we have something to commemorate this special milestone but also didn't have to break the bank for. Julia and Ella came with me and were great helpers in getting her to smile.
Happy birthday, sweet Charlotte Grace. We love you SO much!!!
