Day to Day April

The highlight of April was definitely our big trip to the East coast but the rest of the month was filled with the normal day to day things that make life great.
Soccer was in full swing and The Green Machine is in the middle of a successful season!  Rich helped coach and with practice two nights a week and games on Saturdays it seemed that we spent a lot of time on the fields this month.  Joseph is enjoying it though and has improved so much since starting in the fall.
Here is what our view looked like on Saturdays in April!
On April 2nd we met Katie and the kids at La Jolla Shores for a fun filled beach afternoon!
 Sweet friends!!
 Good buddies!
Joseph started the Magic Tree House books this month and is SO excited!!  I found him like this one afternoon and it made my day!
I know I've mentioned this many times this past year but I am so thankful that we are able to walk to and from school.  I know that we always look like a three ring circus with me pushing the double stroller with sometimes Ella or Julia sitting on the end so I have all three girls in it and then the top is loaded down with backpacks and sometimes strollers, dolls and who knows what else, but all of the kids just love it and look forward to it every day.  I snapped this picture on April 4th because it is just the normal part of everyday life which makes the days so great.
This next picture is also just a candid from a typical day.  Every day after school we pick Joseph up and then stop at the grassy area where we stay until 2:30 when Chris meets us there to walk home.  I always get Charlotte out of the stroller and she bounces around between moms and the kids just all play while we chat.  Some days, Julia sneaks her paci in since she is ready for her nap and most days she is dressed in a  "fancy" outfit!

Ella has been very proud of herself lately because she has mastered putting her hair up without an elastic or a clip!  It looks pretty stylish, too!
For April, Rich only had to be gone one week out of the month due to our trip, which was really nice but one night that he was gone Ella organized a picnic in the kitchen for dinner so we went with it!
I walked into the playroom on April 6th and found this...how does this happen?!?
Heading out for a run on April 7th with my running buddies!
I love this picture of Julia because it just sums up her FUN personality!!!  I'm sure I asked her to smile nicely and this is what she gave me!!
Poppa, Nani, Uncle Bubba and Aunt Hollie have come to many of Joseph's soccer games this season to cheer him on and to play with the girls!
Everyone is excited for Easter and loved the bunny masks that Aunt Cindy sent to them!
Another typical day with this crew...just walking over to the Westwood Club, each pushing a baby stroller.  People in the cars driving by must just laugh when they see us!!!  I hope we make their day!
Since we were going to be in Boston on Easter we decided to dye eggs a week early so on April 9th we had a dyeing party in the driveway which Aidan and Natan made their way over for.  Always a fun tradition!
This picture was taken in the early morning of April 21st, two days after we returned from the east coast.  These two were my early risers for a few days adjusting back to the west coast time and they look like they're still half asleep here but they were up and ready to go!!
On Friday, April 21st Joseph received a medal for being one of the top two runners from his grade level for the fun run!!!  He ran 21 laps which is a little over 4 miles.  We are so proud of him!

At the end of every Flag Friday they sing a song that has hand motions to it and the girls always love to join in!  They rotate songs every few weeks but "Put A Little Love in Your Heart" is one of the favorites!
On April 21st, Ella had an Earth Day festival at her school so Julia, Charlotte and I went to her school at 11:00 for the festivities.  The made kites, planted a succulent, had some other crafts and lots  of games on the field.
 Julia had fun, too!
Back at the fields on April 22nd for one of the last games of the season.  That' s Joseph in goal.  He had an awesome game with three great saves in the last quarter.
And, Charlotte hanging out with me in the shade!!
A little pool time after his game.
Joseph and Ella having fun with some new pool toys!

On Sunday, April 23rd we went up to Nani and Poppa's for a bbq to catch up with everyone before my parents left for almost the entire month of May (it is great to be retired!!)  The kids were in the pool again, and loving it!
Jumping through the tube (which he made!)
 Sweet cousins!!
Sweet sisters messing around on April 25th!
Joseph asked for me to buy him some gel so he has been styling his hair himself and I found this picture on my phone from April 27th!

Back in the pool on April 29th...we've had some really nice weekends in April so the pool is getting good use already!
Although, it is still a bit chilly for me and the kids bounce back and forth between the spa and the pool and then enjoy lying in the sun to warm up, too.
On Saturday, April 29th, Westwood Elementary had a family dance from 6:00 to 8:00.  The theme was black light/neon and the kids loved it!!  We walked to the school with the Vuongs and the Reppas and the kids had a blast dancing in the black light and playing games and eating snacks with all of their friends!
Our neighbor, Julia who is Ella's good friend.
The Botero Drive kids!  We just love our neighbors!!
We went over to the club on the afternoon of Sunday, April 30th with the Vuongs and Laugesens for a few hours...it is starting to feel like summer!!
After the pool, Brandon and Alex came over because  had a ton of ladybugs that they received from the local nursery so they brought them over to our rose bushes and the kids let them free.  It was a great ending to our weekend and to the month of April!

Finally, I wanted to include this picture of the "Lenten symbols" that we worked on for the 40 days leading up to Easter.  Every night at dinner we talked about what we did that was kind (similar to what we did for Christmas and Valentine's Day) and hung it up on the chalkboard.  I love that the kids got so into it and it is such a great reminder to highlight all of the positive things that we see happening on a daily basis and to spread compassion amongst others.  Happy April!
