Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful first Thanksgiving in California and we have so much to be thankful for this year.  Of course, at the top of our list are our three healthy and happy children but we are also so thankful for such wonderful extended family and friends all across the nation.

To kick off the day, I ran in a 10k race that was held in the community where our condo is located in, which was great!  It was a fun course with the majority of it being on a trail and with a killer hill at the end.  I ran and fundraised for our buddy, Will, in hopes to find a cure for Sanfilippo Syndrome.  We are so touched by so many of our amazing family and friends donating so generously in such a short amount of time for his cause and this really goes to show how many lives Will has affected and how many people are inspired by his story and rooting for him.  Thank you! We facetimed with Will and his family the day before Thanksgiving as they were hanging out in the hospital in Minnesota finishing up his final infusion for phase I and it we all loved seeing them. We definitely miss them but are so thankful for technology that doesn't make them seem that far away.
I had a great race and actually placed 2nd in my age group.  It was a small race but I am super happy with my time of 46:46 which is 7:30 minute miles-that is faster than I have been in a long time and I really enjoyed training for this!  Now, the question is...do I really start training for longer runs and focus on getting even faster or have another baby?  Ha!
Joseph was super excited to run in the 1K and he did great!!  He ran by himself and he was super focused and serious throughout the entire thing.  I cut across the field to catch him at a bunch of different points along the course and never once got a smile-I did get a thumbs up once though.  Even when he saw Rich, Ella and Julia he didn't crack a smile but he said he had a lot of fun after.  Ella is super excited to run next year!
After the race and heading back to the condo to prep some food for later that day, we headed up to my  parent's home to begin the festivities!  Rich has been wanting to fry a turkey for the past few years so decided to finally try it this year.  Here is the setup in the backyard:
While the turkey was frying and the final touches to the side dishes were being completed, the kids had a blast playing.
Cousin Ryan came up from San Diego State and is a big hit with the kids.  Joseph was hoping he brought his skateboard but was happy with him doing puzzles and just hanging out.

Getting ready for dinner-checking out the fun plates that Nani had for them.
The guys checking out the turkey
A little crispy on the inside but thankfully was still pretty tasty on the inside.  As Rich carved it, we were a little nervous that it was going to sizzle open like the scene from "Christmas Vacation" but thankfully the meat was definitely edible and not too jerky-like!  He figured out a few days later that it was the rub that he put on that caused it to blacken-next time he will only inject it!  So, there is hope for next year!

Proud of his work-ha ha!
Laura bought sparkling cider for the kids and Ella was the only one who liked it.
They had fun toasting though
Happy Thanksgiving!!
