Our sweet Julia Ann turned 1 on September 8th! How is she a toddling one year old already?? I catch myself almost daily looking at her walking around the house, smiling and thinking, "How can this be?" She has transitioned from a relaxed, go with the flow, calm baby into a very busy one year old who definitely has an opinion of her own but always with a big smile and laugh to go along with it.
She currently loves pointing to everything with her favorites being birds and airplanes. She is such a climber! Climbing all over the little chairs that Nani and Poppa have and once she is sitting in them she tries to stand on them. She is trying really hard to be able to climb into the bathtub and up onto the couch but thankfully her short, chubby legs are holding her back for a little bit longer! Speaking of the bath, she no longer sits in the bath, only wants to stand and only wants to stand directly under the faucet and if you try to move her she normally yells...loudly! She has been walking since August 13th when she took her first steps and during the first week in September is when she really started using walking as her primary mode of transportation-no more crawling for this big one year old!
Check out the big bruiser on her forehead that happened the first week of September-thankfully it was cleared up for her birthday pictures!
One of her favorite activities is to stand right next to the sliding glass door and walk in and out of it. She also loves putting objects in and out of other objects, dancing and doing the hand movements to the Itsy Bitsy Spider, laughing when things fall off of an object (such as a toy off of a tower), walking around dragging a bag or a purse and hugging Cali-dog.
Jammin' out at library storytime!
She still only has her bottom two teeth but we have had sightings of the four, yes FOUR, top teeth all coming in now! They don't seem to bother her during the day but she has had some rough nights the past month so blaming those partly on the teethe and partly still on our crazy sleeping arrangements at my parent's home. She loves giving raspberries (and receiving them) and thankfully she hasn't used her teeth yet while doing so.
She continues to be an awesome eater and most days it seems she can't get enough to eat. She is still napping twice a day and actually has become a great napper since being in California. If we are out in the morning she normally will sleep in the car but if we are home, she normally will take about a 45 minute morning nap. For the afternoons, I try really hard to be home for nap time since both her and Ella will sleep for about 2 hours-I still nurse her to go to sleep and am working on weaning but it hasn't been as easy it was as with the other two as she still puts up a fight for it and is just so easy to get to sleep with nursing.
We found a new pediatrician here so she had her one year appointment on Septmeber 17th and she checked out great. She weighed in at 22 pounds, 1.5 ounces which is the 80th percentile and is 29.5 inches long putting her in the 23rd percentile. The doctor said she is a healthy growing girl!
Her big brown eyes and long eyelashes have people commenting on them all of the time and her little curls in the back of her head are too cute...still not much hair up on top but the curls make up for it!
Love those curls!
We had three mini celebrations for Julia's birthday so she definitely had her share of cake! On August 29th my family was going to get together at my parent's house to celebrate her but the Ozecks ended up getting sick so we celebrated then with just my parents and Brian and Hollie. The next time that we saw the Ozecks the kids wanted to sing to her so we made birthday brownies together and celebrated again. And, then on her real birthday, we couldn't just let that slip by without another song and more cake!
She was pretty subdued eating her carrot cupcake on August 29th-she liked it but wasn't all smiles about it (she was probably disappointed that I made her a healthier carrot cupcake version :)
Wearing her party dress from Nani on the 29th.
One final photo from her enjoying her "still healthier version of a cake" on her real birthday.
Happy 1st birthday sweet Julia Ann. We have loved every moment of the past year and look forward to all of the wonderful adventures ahead watching you grow. Love you.
