Weekend Staycation

We took a stay-cation over the weekend to Galveston beach...granted, not quite in the same league as a stay-cation to Waikiki, but we had a wonderful time and it was awesome to be by the beach, even if it wasn't as turqouise as we are used to.  And, yes, we know, we are spoiled and have very high expectations!!
Yay for road trips!!
We turned him forward facing just for the trip-although he definitely meets the weight requirement I am having a tough time keeping him forward facing so as soon as we got home he went backwards again!
The main reason why we went was for Rich and his friend, Mike, to compete in a triathlon on Sunday morning in Kemah whcih is about 20 minutes from Galveston in a cute, boardwalk town on the coast.  We caravanned down early Saturday morning with the Conley family and went to Kemah first for lunch and to pick up the race packets.  After lunch the guys checked out the race route and Carrie and I and the kids hit up Marble Slab for some ice cream and roamed around the boardwalk.

Then we made our way to Galveston.  The sitter that both our families use was gracious enough to let us stay at her family's beach home!  It was the cutest little beach house, equipped with an outdoor shower and all!  It worked out perfect.

We then headed over to teh beach for the rest of the afternoon.  Joseph ran directly to the water, stayed in the entire time we were there, and didn't want to come out when it was time to leave.  Although his time in Hawaii was short, he definitely has it in his blood! It was such a nice afternoon and so fun to relax on the beach!
After the beach we roamed around the town and Rich found his twin

Packed up the kids, fed them dinner and put them to bed and then Rich and Mike made us a delicious, carbo-loading dinner of pasta.  Looking back on it, Carrie and I probably should have cooked since they were the ones with the race in the morning but the guys didn't seem to care and Carrie and I were way too comfortable relaxing!  The kids must have been excited for the race the next morning since they took turns being up all night long (Clarie didn't go to bed until 10 and then Joseph was up from 11:30 to 1:30 and then Norah 2:00 to 5:00) so needless to say we were a little groggy when we rolled out of bed at 6 to get ready to cheer on the daddies but after a Starbucks we were good to go!

On our way!
 The cheering squad

It was so fun to cheer on Rich and Mike and they both did great!  It was Mike's 1st triathlon and he and Rich have been training together for the past 3 months or so.  Rich came in 3rd in his division!!!  He would have gotten a trophy of a pelican but we were starving so left for lunch before hte awards.  Since I am not a swimmer nor a biker, his times didn't really impress me because I don't have an idea as to what "fast" is, but his mile splits for the run were 7:15 which is pretty fast if you ask me :)  Especially for a "Clydesdale"-that was his division name-the 200 pound plus!

Finishing the bike and ready to run

 Almost to the finish line

We had another fun lunch and then headed back to Galveston for the afternoon and then made it home to The Woodlands-all in time to go out on a date night that evening!  It was such a fun weekend and he guys are already talking about their next race sometime in July so we should be reayd for another stay-cation by then.
All tuckered out after the weekend of fun on the ride home
