Merry Christmas!

Thankfully since the kids had opened the fireplace for Santa, he was able to make his way down the chimney and find his way to our tree!  I just love how the house looks and feels on Christmas Eve before finally going to bed-definitely a magical night and waiting for all of the magic the following morning!  Joseph was the first one up, with Ella shortly behind.  They came down the stairs and scoped out the presents on their way to our room to wake us up.  No peeking but they were super excited that Santa made it and anxious to get the morning started.  Brian and Hollie spent the night so that was fun having them make their way down the stairs that morning and Nani, Poppa and the Zicklers all showed up just as were waking Julia.
He even left a note!
The note from Santa mentions the cribs for baby Jesus which is one of my favorite traditions from Christmas which was passed on from my family when I was grwoing up.  We create cribs for baby Jesus and throughout the month of December during dinner we share something that we did that day that would make Jesus happy and then put a cotton ball in Jesus' crib to make it comfortable for his birth on Christmas.  The kids really got into it this year, even Julia, who would often ask after doing something kind, "Do I get a cotton ball for that?"  This is our version of Elf on a Shelf and I hope to continue it for many years as I feel that it brings out the true spirit of Christmas.  The cribs aren't anything fancy to resemble Jesus' humble birth but are definitely a highlight to our Christmas season.
Once the adults had coffee and everyone assembled into the family room, the unwrapping began!!  It was SO much fun watching the kids and the excitement!  We tried to keep it somewhat organized and not turning into total chaos and they were pretty good about waiting turns and only having one person open at a time.
They loved having everyone over to help with the fun!
The girls received a dollhouse that is bigger than them!!  Do you see Julia hidden in the bottom room?!?  Ha ha!  They love it and continue to play with it daily and we hope to have it for many years to come.
Joseph's main gift was a skateboard to be able to keep up with the neighborhood kids and he was excited to test it out at Nani and Poppa's later that afternoon.
Charlotte and Finn seemed to enjoy all of the fun in their matching pjs, too!

Next year they will be in the mix, too!!
Daddy modeling his new workout sweat band from Mark while hanging with Charlotte after the excitement of the morning died down a a little bit.
We enjoyed a delicious breakfast after opening presents (I found some great breakfast dishes to make the night before which I will definitely make again especially because it made the morning so easy!) and then the kids got busy playing!!  Joseph spent all morning working on his Ninjago lego set and almost had it complete by the time we went to Nani and Poppa's later that day.
We had round two of presents at Nani and Poppa's and had fun celebrating again with the Ozecks since they hung in Coronado that morning with Dave's parents.
Nani put together a scavenger hunt for Poppa for his gift and had all of the kids involved in finding the clues.  His gift was a basketball hoop which sounds more like a gift for the kids but we know Poppa will be right out there playing with them all!!
Meanwhile, the littles were still super happy just hanging out with each other smiling for whomever would walk on by!
A little entertainment by Uncle Paul while playing charades!
Some sweet baby snuggles from baby Finn

and then to finish out the day we sang Happy Birthday to Jesus with the traditional Delicious Cake from Grammy S.  It was such a magical Christmas and we are so thankful for such a wonderful day!!

Merry Christmas Eve!

After the excitement from the morning at Nani and Poppa's we came home for a quick rest and then got ready for Christmas Eve mass at 4:00.  We were there by 3:20 and the church was full already but thankfully got the last two rows in the cry room which overall worked out fine.  We couldn't see much and they did do a nativity play which would have been nice to see but at least we all had seats!  Brian, Hollie, Nani, Poppa and the Zicklers all joined us which made it extra special.  After church we went back to our house to enjoy Christmas Eve together.  I made Pop's sauce, which I haven't made in a long time so I was happy to make it again, which we enjoyed that with salad and bread and then Christmas cookies for dessert.
Despite the fifty plus photos that I took of them after church I didn't get a single one with all of them smiling...I'm not asking much for Christmas, just for a decent picture!!  Still love this crazy bunch!!
By this point, Joseph had taken off his church clothes but we still had to get a picture with baby Finn, too!
We turned the tv on to put some Christmas music on and we found a Santa tracker as well as Christmas karaoke which turned out to be a blast!  The kids (and the adults!) had so much fun singing to the Christmas carols and it was a great way to get ready for Santa.
Before bed the kids left cookies and milk out for Santa and had to make sure that the fireplace was open for a smooth arrival!
Merry Christmas Eve!!

Christmas Eve morning

On Christmas Eve morning we headed to Nani and Poppa's for our Christmas celebration with the delaMontaigne family.  We celebrated in the morning on Christmas Eve since this was the only time that we could all be together as Bri and Hollie were heading to her parents on Christmas Day and the Ozecks were heading back to Coronado to be with Dave's parents on Christmas Eve night and Christmas morning.  It worked out well though and we had a great celebration!
A quick photo op with our crew before leaving.
We had a delicious brunch at Nani's -here is the kid's table!
Soon enough Finn will be at the kid table, too, but for now he has plenty of help during mealtime!
So fun to have all of the cousins together to celebrate Christmas!!
And, a silly one!
Charlotte and Poppa getting ready for the festivities to begin!
For the past 8 years (at least we think 8 but it could be longer!) my mom has been giving us all coordinating pajamas for Christmas.  For the past few years she has threatened to stop the tradition since our pajama drawers are overflowing but it is something that we all  (or most of us at least!) look forward to and has been so fun!
Julia was loving on her pajamas!!
Charlotte was excited to get her first pair!
We all put the pajamas on immediately to get a picture!!

Mr. George came over to enjoy the festivities with us and he was kind enough to bring gifts for all of the kids.

Ella was beyond excited when she opened the Frozen calendar from him!!

After opening gifts from Mr. George we began the gift card game.  Nani started this game a few years ago and it has been fun to watch it grow over the years.  I am pretty sure that this was the first year that the kids were involved and they were so excited!  They even got into the stealing as Cole first picked a Toys R Us gift card and then Joseph stole it from him and then Syd ended up stealing it from Joseph.  Although a bit disappointed to give up the Toys R Us gift card, he ended up with a Golden Spoon one which totally made up for it.
Everyone is anxiously awaiting the next gift card!!  So much fun!
Love, love, love this family of ours! It was such a fun celebration and so fun to have all of us together!
